Environments
Environments are key to conveying the setting and atmosphere to the viewer, each object providing meaning.

This page features the environmental pieces I've drawn to date, including the development processes.
The Sacred Altar (2020)
This envrionmental illustration was drawn for a university project, following the story of Yuuki and Emi which are my own original characters. Emi is a goddess who has fallen from grace and Yuuki is their vessel.
I wanted to challenge myself by drawing a complex environmental scene in a natural environment. To achieve my desired perspective, I created 3D models for added accuracy before drawing on top.
Every
Hue of You (2023)
Every Hue of You - Store interior
In Every Hue of You, the game is set in a jewellery store in a Melbourne inspired world. This jeweller was once the go to place for anyone looking for jewellery, but now it's more quiet after the loss of its original owner.
Working on this illustration, I had to create a lived-in space that reflected the elegance of a jeweller, combined with a somber atmosphere as well as a magical one. I also had to bear in mind that it would be raining most of the time this scene was shown, so the background is on a separate layer to allow for rain particles and other animated assets to be added in later on.

As a man-made structure, I decided to convey the elegance of a jeweller by making the architecture gothic inspired with the arches, windows and pillars. To make it feel lived-in, I added the flower and umbrella to set the scene and the unique lights that hang in the store; the lights not only highlight the customers that enter the store, but also give the space a whismical feel particularly at night. The background behind the window was directly inspired by a street in Fitzroy, Melbourne and that made the whole place feel more grounded and contain some Melbourne culture.

To create the somber yet magical atmosphere, I focused on colour. There are 3 main colours: purple, black and brown with gold serving as an accent colour. Most of these colours I've chosen to use a cool toned variation, with dusty purple being the most prominent colour reflected in the walls. Purple itself is a magical colour, but using a desaturated variation it helps achieve a sad atmosphere. However, with the help of orange, a colour I've used for the lighting glow, it warms up the scene and intensifies the purple (specifically in the lamps) and creates a more magical environment.
