Role: Art director and main illustrator
Every Hue of You is the first title Cactus Jam Games has published! I am one of the two founders of Cactus Jam, and we worked on this visual novel for a year and a half - from 2022 till July 2023. This project was successfully funded by Screen Australia and VicScreen!

Figuring out the art style for the game was a simple process, although the level of detail increased over time.
We decided to go for an anime art style which in the end resembled my regular illustration art style with the rendering. Given the short time frame, it made sense to complete the game in a style I was more familiar with and fit the genre. This game helped me learn a lot about my art process, how to work more efficiently and improved my background work.

New VS Original artwork comparison
I was mostly in charge of the designs for our main characters Twyla and Lao, as well as the jewellery store setting that would be depicted for the majority of the game. Designing Twyla and Lao was more of a collaborative process, whilst the store was environment was purely my responsibility. I struggled a lot to create a lived-in space that also reflected the elegance of a jeweller combined with a somber atmosphere.
Initial Twyla designs with the premise of her being a strong individual and a jeweller.

Initial concept art
In total, I drew over 130 character sprites and over 100 full illustrations (backgrounds, CGs, cutscenes art). This was a massive undertaking but also very rewarding to see the game come to life with my artwork and pushed me to improve my poses, compositions and colours. Drawing many sprites also challenged my consistency, making sure characters retained the same look and feel in different poses and angles.
